Police have launched an investigation after a video showing an officer brutally assaulting an individual on Bharatpur’s bypass road at night went viral on social media.

The video has drawn widespread attention, prompting police to verify the incident’s authenticity, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Gautam Mishra, chief of the District Police Office, Chitwan.

SP Mishra said he saw the video and found the incident serious enough to warrant an investigation.

The footage shows a policeman repeatedly kicking a man in a white shirt by the roadside while checking a motorcycle licence. The video also captures the security personnel shouting, “Call whoever you want.”

SP Mishra assured that steps are being taken to identify the officer and the location involved. “Once the facts are verified, the officer will face action under the Police Act,” he said.
