The head of state issued the ordinance two days after he issued four other ordinances recommended on the same day.Post Report
President Ramchandra Paudel has issued the Ordinance to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Land Management 2025 upon the recommendation of a Cabinet meeting held on Friday.
The ordinance, promulgated under Article 114 (1) of Nepal’s Constitution, aims to update and streamline legal provisions in various land-related laws.
According to a press release issued by Spokesperson Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai, the President signed the ordinance on Wednesday. Though President Paudel on Monday issued four of the five ordinances recommended by the government, he held the ordinance on land and forests citing some sensitive issues.
While the specific details of the amendments have yet to be publicly disclosed, government sources indicate that the ordinance includes significant reforms to land policies, particularly those affecting landless individuals and marginalised communities.
The ordinance drew public criticism, as some loopholes in the legal document enforced without parliamentary discussion could have dire consequences for public land encroached upon unlawfully under various pretexts.
The ordinance comes amidst calls from opposition parties for the government to convene the winter session of Parliament to debate land reforms and other pressing issues.
