The US Department of the State has honoured journalist Matrika Dahal of Kantipur daily, a sister publication of The Kathmandu Post, as a 2024 Anti-corruption champion.
He was felicitated by the US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken amid a function in Washington DC on Monday.
“The U.S. prioritizes the fight against corruption, but it can't succeed alone. That's why @StateDept is honoring 10 remarkable individuals whose courage and dedication have made a significant impact in preventing, exposing, & combating corruption. Congratulations!” the US Dept of State INL wrote on X.
Professionals from various countries including a judge, lawyer, professor, army officer, activist and journalist were awarded for their contributions in controlling corruption in their respective countries.
Kantipur journalist Dahal was recognised for his continuous reporting in various corruption scams. Some of his works include extensive coverage to expose the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, Lalita Niwas land grab and gold smuggling case. All these scams were carried out in collusion between politicians, government officials and middlemen.
“This award has further encouraged me to work in the field of investigative journalism with more courage,” Dahal said after receiving the award.
