Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba met her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Chengdu, China, on Friday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on X that both ministers exchanged views on various aspects of Nepal-China relations and discussed matters relating to the preparation for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's upcoming official visit.
Foreign Minister Deuba left for China on Thursday at the invitation of her Chinese counterpart to lay the ground for the prime minister’s visit. This marks her first official visit to China since her appointment as minister in July.
The visit comes as the Oli-led coalition government prepares to navigate Nepal’s position on the BRI. Continuous negotiations between ruling coalition partners—the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML—are underway to finalise Nepal’s stance on development cooperation with China. The BRI remains a key area of focus for Nepal’s engagement with its northern neighbour.
According to the ministry, Prime Minister Oli will pay an official visit to China from December 2 to 5 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. During the visit, he will hold bilateral talks with Premier Li and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.
Oli is also scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China. The prime minister will deliver a keynote speech at Peking University as part of the visit. He will also address the Nepal-China Business Forum, co-hosted by the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).
