Kathmandu

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Wednesday released industrialist Arun Chaudhary and three others, who have been accused in the Bansbari Leather and Shoe Factory land scam, on personal guarantee.

The Kathmandu District Court on Monday had extended the judicial custody of the accused by two days. However, the court had ordered the authorities to release them on a personal guarantee if the investigation did not complete within the extended period.

As per the same, the CIB released the accused on a personal guarantee.

Chaudhary has been released on a personal guarantee of his son, Karan Chaudhary.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Dinesh Acharya, the investigation into the case will continue as per the existing law.

“The accused were arrested during the investigation of the case, and have been released on personal guarantee as per the court order,” Acharya said. “But the investigation will continue.”

On February 1, the CIB had arrested Chaudhary along with Ajit Narayan Singh Thapa, former executive chairman of the leather and shoe factory and Sanjaya Thakur, director of CG Chandbagh Residency and Champion Footwear Company, which was established by the Chaudhary family under whose name the 10 ropani land was first registered.

The trio have been accused of being involved in illegally converting 10 ropani of public land belonging to the government-owned shoe factory into private property.
