The Nepal Bar Association on Tuesday said the government and transitional justice commissions should be responsible for concluding issues related to the peace process.
In a statement issued in the wake of the registration of petitions against Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in an insurgency-related case, the umbrella organisation of legal practitioners said the concerned bodies are acting in the matter under their jurisdiction.
“The attention of Nepal Bar Association has been drawn regarding the reactions from various quarters concerning the peace process and jurisdiction of the court,” reads the statement undersigned by bar association president Gopal Krishna Ghimire and General Secretary Anjita Khanal.
“As the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons are working as per their jurisdictions, it is the responsibility of the government and the commissions to take the peace process to a logical conclusion and provide proper justice to the victims.”
