Aryal set to be Speaker unopposed

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) vice-chair Dolendra Prasad Aryal has emerged as the sole candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives after the nomination deadline ended on Friday.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat had set the time for registration of nominations from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Room No. 1 of the Parliament building. Only Aryal filed his candidacy during the period.
Aryal’s proposal was registered with RSP chair and lawmaker Rabi Lamichhane as proposer, and lawmakers Swarnim Wagle, Sobita Gautam and Sunil Lamsal as supporters.
With only one nomination filed, the proposal will be presented and seconded in the House meeting scheduled for April 5. Following that, Aryal is set to be declared elected unopposed, said Ekram Giri, joint secretary at the Parliament Secretariat.
The lower house is scheduled to meet at 11:00 am on Sunday to endorse the proposal for electing the Speaker.
