Police have arrested lawmaker Arun Kumar Chaudhary of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.
Chaudhary, who was elected to the House of Representatives from Kailali-2, was arrested from Banke on Thursday.
Chaudhary was convicted of arson by Kailali District Court and sentenced to six months in jail and ordered to pay a fine of Rs800,000. However, the court’s verdict on the incident that happened some ten years ago was not implemented.
Police said he is being taken to Kailali for the implementation of the verdict.
A single bench of then Judge Bishnu Subedi had pronounced Chaudhary guilty of setting a tractor on fire. Mahadev Bajgain of then Baliya Village Development Committee had lodged a complaint with the police accusing Chaudhary of setting ablaze his tractor. The court had also convicted Parshuram Chaudhary and Bir Bahadur Chaudhary in the case.
