Nepal Bar Association to resume protest on Friday

Nepal Bar Association has decided to resume the protest against suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana’s entry to the Supreme Court following this morning’s development.
The impeachment motion against the suspended chief justice was rendered ineffective on Wednesday following a letter from Bharat Raj Gautam, general secretary at the federal parliament, was sent to the Office of the President, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Constitutional Council, Supreme Court, Judicial Council stating that the impeachment motion inactive with the formation of a new parliament after the November 20 elections.
In light of the development, Rana is preparing to return to the apex court to resume duties.
The protest for Wednesday has ended, said officials of the bar association.
Gopal Krishna Ghimire, president of the Nepal Bar Association, informed that their protest will resume at 10am on Friday.
“Thursday is a public holiday so we won’t be protesting then. We will continue our protest from Friday,” said Ghimire.
