On Wednesday morning, supporters of the Mangol National Organisation Party attempted to seize a strip of land at the buffer zone of the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve in Saptari. A clash ensued between the Mangol party and police, where three police personnel got injured.
SP Rajendra Bista said personnel from the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force lobbed 19 rounds of tear gas canisters to take the situation under control. Police also arrested 13 people including Shakti Rai, Province 1 in-charge of the Mangol party. Bista said Rai had gathered more than 5,000 people to take over the land at Bairaba in Kanchanrup Municipality-1. They were planning to build a settlement on the land.
