Saptari police has arrested two people on charge acquiring Nepali citizenship by providing fake documents. Gangadhar Yadav and his grandson Bibekananda are accused of obtaining Nepali citizenship from the then Bhutahi VDC-9 in Saptari.
The district administration office said Gangadhar Yadav of Madhubani district in Bihar, India, and his six family members—two sons, two daughters-in-law, a grandson (Bibekananda) and a granddaughter-in-law—acquired Nepali citizenship by providing false details.
All their names are included in the voters list of India, police said. Among the seven, police have arrested the grandfather-grandson duo. Search for the remaining family members is underway, said DSP Bhabesh Rimal.
The arrest was made after a resident of Dakaneshwori Municipality filed a written complaint against the family at the local administration.
Initial investigation showed that Gangadhar had acquired his citizenship through his mother-in-law Bilatibati Devi Yadav’s citizenship number. After that, he acquired citizenship for other members of his family, police said.
“We will take stern actions against those found guilty of using fake details to obtain Nepali citizenship,” said DSP Rimal.
