The government has given Rs 10 million to Ganga Maya Adhikari, who has staged several rounds of hunger strike seeking justice for the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari, as a relief.

According to Adhikari’s advocate Ashikram Karki, the government on Monday opened an account in Ganga Maya Adhikari’s name at Agricultural Development Bank and deposited Rs 10million as per the agreement reached with her in 2013. The government has also deposited the interest amount of Rs 19, 63,000 in Adhikari’s account.

The government had signed a five-point agreement with Ganga Maya to persuade her to end her hunger strike on September 22, 2013 following the death of her husband Nanda Prasad Adhikari.

Earlier on July 13, Ganga Maya Adhikari ended her indefinite hunger strike on the 46th day after the government pledged to implement the agreements made with her in the past.

She has been seeking justice of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari who was killed 14 years ago during the insurgency in Nepal.

Adhikari and her husband, Nanda Prasad, had first begun their hunger strike in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar in January 2013.
