On March 7, 16-year-old Inisa, originally from ward 6 of Badakholi in Gurbhakot Municipality and residing in Birendranagar Municipality-1 for her education, was found unconscious and bleeding in the Janajagaran Community Forest. Despite being rushed to the provincial hospital by local residents and police officers, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The incident has triggered protests and public pressure in several parts of the country, with calls for justice for the victim. Her parents have accused police of delaying efforts to establish the actual circumstances of her death, 19 days after the incident. They have refused to claim the body until they are ensured justice. Her body has remained in the mortuary of Karnali Provincial Hospital for the past 19 days.
Following the incident, police took a 16-year-old boy into custody and began an investigation. Police also arrested three others on suspicion of involvement.
Sudhir Raj Shahi, Chief of the District Police Office, Surkhet, said the investigation report has been submitted to the government attorney’s office. However, he declined to disclose its findings.
