Nepal Bar Association, which issued a statement in favour of outgoing chief justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli a few days ago, welcomed his resignation on Thursday.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Reporters’ Club, NBA General Secretary Khamba Bahadur Khati said Parajuli’s resignation had helped ease tension at the judiciary that was divided due to a controversy surrounding the CJ’s date of birth.
“Parajuli has resigned as the chief justice. It’s a welcome move—an appropriate decision to resolve the row,” said Khati. Senior Advocate Bishwa Kanta Mainali said the resignation had averted a possible disaster in the judiciary.
