Three major student organisations have submitted a joint memorandum to Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa drawing the latter’s attention to the increasing incidents of violence against women and children in the recent days. They have demanded the government to take concrete steps to curb such incidents.
A students delegation, led by All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) Chairperson Nabina Lama, Nepal Students Union (NSU) President Nain Singh Mahar and All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU) Chairman Ranjit Tamang, submitted the memorandum to Home Minister Thapa on Saturday.
The students have demanded for the arrest of the culprits involved in the torture of a young woman at Ghodaghodi Municipality in Kailali on witchcraft allegation and the persons involved in the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Parsa last week.
Receiving the memorandum, Home Minister Thapa said the government was committed to take strong action against the perpetrators of a recent spate of crimes that have been committed against women and children in various parts of the country.
He said that those involved in committing rape would not be let off the hook, adding that he has directed the security bodies to initiate legal action against the guilty.
