CPN-UML leader and Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai has been elected as the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader of Province 1.

UML Standing Committee member and Province In-charge Secretary Bhim Acharya, and Rai, who is also the politburo member and assistant In-charge of the province, had thrown their hat in the ring for the post of PP leader.

Among the 51 votes, Rai mustered 26 votes while Acharya acquired 24. One vote was declared invalid.

The Parliamentary Party Election Committee of the party had set 11 am to 11:30 am to file the candidacy.

Voting for the PP leader kicked off at 2 pm.

It has been learnt that Acharya is loyal to UML senior leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal while Rai is close of party Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
