Veteran mountaineering guide Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who climbed Mount Everest for the 30th time on Monday, is set to attempt his 31st ascent of the world’s highest peak on Thursday.
Sagar Kumar Poudel, managing director of TAG Nepal Treks & Expeditions Pvt Ltd, confirmed the development. He said Sherpa has already set off for the summit attempt.
According to Poudel, Sherpa is expected to reach the summit on Friday morning if weather conditions remain favourable.
“He has gone for another ascent and is aiming for yet another successful summit,” he said.
The 49-year-old climber from Pangboche in Solukhumbu recently completed his 30th successful Everest ascent, placing him second on the list of climbers with the highest number of Everest summits.
If he succeeds again this season, he will move closer to the world record of 32 Everest ascents held by Kami Rita Sherpa.
Pasang Dawa first climbed Everest in 1998.
Last year, he summited Everest twice in a single climbing season. Competition among Sherpa guides for the highest number of Everest ascents has intensified in recent years.
