The Arun river has been blocked forming a 3-kilometre dam at Syaksila Gola in Hatiya, Sankhuwasabha district.
According to DSP at Sankhuwasabha District Police Office, Gautam Kumar KC, massive flood debris from Barun River washed up on Arun causing the river to be dammed. The dammed river has posed a risk to around 80 families living in the area.
The incident site is 2-day walk from the district headquarters Khandbari.
Meanwhile, 22 security personnel under Hedamna Sub-Inspector and 13 police personnel from Hatiyagola have reached the incident site for rescue operation.
A meeting of the Natural Disaster Rescue Committee is under way.
Chief District Officer Shivaraj Joshi informed that a team of Nepal Army has been deployed in the area. The army will inspect the dam site by helicopter and bring in additional personnel to conduct the operation.
Likewise, the administration has urged the locals to remain vigilant.
