People in several parts of the country have been protesting against the proposal of the Local Level Restructuring Committee (LLRC) saying that its technical committees and political leaders recommended local body restructuring without consulting with them.
The protesters claim that the technical committee and the parties’ representatives did not discuss with the local people before sending the restructuring proposals to the commission.
In Okhaldhunga, people of Taluwa, Thulachhap, Moli and Bhadaure VDCs are dissatisfied at the restructuring proposal. The agitated locals have been protesting for a week. On Monday, around 100 protesters picketed the District Development Committee office and submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office demanding a separate village council. They have been demanding that Taluwa, Thulachhap, Moli and Bhadaure VDCs should be brought together to form a village council.
The agitated locals have obstructed Nishankhe-Khanibhanjyang-Kuibhir road. Gejraj Shrestha of Thulachhap said the technicians of the LLRC did not discuss with locals before sending the recommendations to the commission. The committee has proposed including Bhadaure in Chisankhugadhi village council, Taluwa in Siddhicharan Municipality and Moli in the Manebhanjyang village council. All the local leaders of political parties attended the protest. The technical committee of the LLRC has proposed seven village councils and one municipality in the district.
In Dailekh, people on Monday picketed the DDC demanding a separate village council including Kalbhairab, Gauri, Gamaudhi and Malika VDCs. The technical committee of the LLRC has proposed including these VDCs in Dullu Municipality. However, the locals are dissatisfied at the proposal. Khagendra Bahadur Thapa of Gamaudhi said they were compelled to protest after the political parties and the committee members did not consult with them before sending the proposal to the commission.
In Taplejung, around 100 people from Thukima, Nalbu, Papung, Olangchungola, Khokling, Tapethok, Lelep and Ikhabu VDCs, dissatisfied with the way of restructuring, protested in the district headquarters. Villagers complained that the authorities had not consulted with them while making the recommendations. The technical committee of the LLRC has proposed eight village councils and one municipality in Taplejung.
