Radio Dhading resumed its broadcast on Sunday, two days after the forest authority in the district ransacked its office built on an encroached land inside Amarawati Community Forest in Neelkantha Municipality.
“To ensure people’s right to information, we have started transmission in accordance with the suggestion of our valued listeners, leaders of stakeholders and well wishers,” said Rajaram Sharma, the station manager of
the radio.
On Saturday, representatives of the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal had inspected the station and suggested its staff to continue the service from the same
building.
The National Human Rights Commission had also sent a letter to the local administration, requesting the latter to let the radio continue its broadcast.
The District Forest Office had also demolished the building of Sneha House, a women’s shelter, for encroaching forest land. Protesting the incident, local women demonstrated at Dhadingbesi, the district headquarters, on Sunday. They staged an hour-long sit-in outside the District Administration Office, demanding compensation for the damage. The protesters also burnt the effigies of Chief District Officer and District Forest Officer.
