Police in Bajhang have arrested one Prawin Mandal who had been practising medicine at New Chain Medical in Chainpur without a medical degree.
Mandal was taken into custody after a woman from Kotdevel VDC became unconscious when he injected her with a drug last Friday. The 35-year-old woman, Laxmi Bohara, is currently undergoing treatment at the
District Hospital. Her condition is critical.
Investigation has revealed that Mandal had a history of defrauding people by presenting himself as a medical doctor. Mandal had served one year jail sentence in the past after a patient from Nepalgunj, Banke, died of the medicines he had prescribed.
Upon being released from prison, Mandal continued to endanger people’s lives posing as a doctor.
Mandal’s arrest comes just weeks after police arrested several practising doctors from different parts of the country for using fake academic credentials to acquire medical degrees.
