The Jogbani customs at Indian side of Biratnagar has introduced new rule that demands vehicles with Nepali number plate to obtain a ticket for crossing the border. The provision has been introduced in this border-crossing for the first time on Monday. The ticket once obtained will be valid for 24 hours.

According to this new rule, Nepal-registered motorcycles will have to pay Rs 30; city rickshaw Rs 70; small four-wheelers Rs 80 and buses will be charged Rs 150 to cross the border, informed Rani Area Police Office Inspector Ganga Paudel.

However, Paudel added, that this rule is not be applicable to vehicles carrying industrial raw materials, readymade items and trading goods.

Nepali customs offices are already charging entry fee from Nepal-bound Indian vehicles.

Officer at Biratnagar Customs Office, Arjun Neupane, informed that the Indian side introduced such provision due to excessive traffic and disturbances to commuters and cargo vehicles in Jogbani area from the freely entering Nepali vehicles.
