Japanese helps construct building
The construction work on the building of Nepal Jyoti Secondary School located in Namsaling, Ilam has been completed with the help of a generous donationBiplab Bhattarai
Uncertain due to a fund crunch, the construction initiated by District Education Office and District Development Committee was anything but certain. However, Tomaki provided financial assistance worth Rs 1.2 million with a view to accomplishing the goal. The school imparting education to more than 200 students, now, has also established a convention centre.
“We were having problems due to the lack of a building. The completion of the building has come as a huge relief,” said headmaster Santosh Dewan. The school stated their plans to operate computer rooms, library and laboratory among others in the first floor. The school has spent Rs 4.1 million collected through various resources for the construction of the building till date, leaving the school at a loss of Rs 900,000, Dewan said.
Meanwhile, a trust fund worth approximately Rs 3.4 million has been established in Tomaki’s name with a motive to provide scholarships to students in the district. And in order to encourage and promote quality education, the school looks forward to coordinate with Japanese schools for student exchange programme.
“We have already taken the initiative to fulfill the needs of the school as the construction of a building alone is not enough to increase the quality of education,” said former Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development Khem Raj Nepal. Following his retirement, Nepal has reportedly been active in the infrastructural development of his birth place, Namsaling. “It is essential to set a curriculum with extra-curricular activities to ensure a broadminded education,” Nepal claimed.
The school building has been constructed using quake resistant technology like most other buildings constructed in the VDC with the help of individuals and various organisations.
Last year, Kantipur media group financed the building of Sharda Lower Secondary School in the VDC.
