The new Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Rakesh Pandey, has urged enhanced formal and informal engagement between India and Nepal to facilitate a greater flow of information and opportunities.
Speaking at a roundtable meeting with the Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) in Kathmandu on Thursday, Pandey recommended holding sector-wise monthly meetings to create an enabling environment for increased investment.
He also suggested that NICCI strengthen collaboration with partner associations in Nepal and initiate studies on the strengths and requirements of both countries.
“NICCI should conduct a study on complementarities and present the findings to the leadership of both countries to inform further steps,” Pandey said, emphasising that improved physical and digital connectivity would help create a more supportive business environment. “Let’s build on traditional strengths while exploring new areas.”
During the interaction, Suman Shekhar, First Secretary (Commerce) at the Indian Embassy, also discussed ongoing bilateral engagements.
NICCI President Sunil KC welcomed Pandey and highlighted Indian investments in Nepal, stressing that Nepal could benefit from India’s rapid economic growth. “India is a fast-growing economy, and Nepal can take advantage of its neighbour’s rise,” he added.
