Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak will inaugurate the third Transport Management Office in the Kathmandu Valley amid a ceremony. The department also maintains such offices in Ekantakuna, Lalitpur and Thulo Bharyang, Kathmandu.
The new office will provide services like driving license issuance and renewal, and registration of vehicles. The office, however, will not conduct driving tests for licence issuance.
According to DoTM, the move to set up a new office is in line with the directive of the Transport Ministry to expand such offices to facilitate the general public. “The office at Jagati will primarily serve people residing and working in the eastern part of the Kathmandu valley,” said DoTM Information Officer Tok Raj Pandey, adding the office could also start conducting vehicle driving tests soon.
In the absence of such an office in Bhaktapur, people from the region had been forced to travel all the way to Lalitpur and Kathmandu.
DoTM has assigned 26 staffers, 10 hired on contract basis, in the new office. According to Pandey the office will adopt an online system to facilitate the service seekers and maintain proper records.
DoTM is also making preparations to open one more such office in Chabahil, Kathmandu.
