Heifer International Nepal and its employees have contributed Rs10 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support communities affected by the devastating August 26 floods and landslides.

The contribution includes funds from Heifer Nepal’s emergency provision and donations from its staff, who allocated a portion of their salaries to the relief effort, the organisation said in a statement.

The August 26 disaster, triggered by a glacier collapse in the high Himalayas, caused extensive damage and loss of life in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other downstream areas. Hundreds of families have been displaced, while damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure has hampered access to affected communities.

“Heifer Nepal and our employees stand in solidarity with the families and communities affected by this devastating disaster,” said Tirtha Raj Regmi, country director of Heifer International Nepal. “This contribution is also our commitment to supporting the government’s relief and recovery efforts.”

Heifer Nepal said it was also providing immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, medical care and other essential support, while assessing the needs of affected communities in coordination with government agencies, partners and local communities.

The organisation said it plans to support affected families beyond the immediate emergency response, including efforts to restore livelihoods and rebuild communities as recovery progresses.
