Everest, Marriott sign mgmt deal
The Everest Hospitality Group of the MS Group, one of Nepal’s leading business conglomerates, and Marriott International signed a management agreement on Monday
The MS Group is currently constructing a Fairfield by Marriott property in Kathmandu which is on track to open later in 2015. The Marriott Kathmandu is the MS Group’s second hospitality investment in Nepal.
“Kathmandu continues to grow as an international business and leisure destination and, as such, increasingly needs quality international hotel brands in the city,” said the MS Group in a statement. “The Everest Hospitality Group and Marriott International are delighted to be able to bring the flagship Marriott Hotels brand to Nepal.”
Gaurav Agarwal, managing director of the Everest Hospitality Group said, “The popularity of Nepal as a tourist destination continues to increase, and Kathmandu is both a transit hub and a destination in its own right. The flagship Marriott Kathmandu will cater not only to people who already have Kathmandu on their travel agendas but will help attract more people to Nepal. In addition to the two hotels under construction, we are identifying other locations to develop more luxury and lifestyle hotels to be managed by Marriott in the country,” he said.
Commenting on the signing, Navjit Ahluwalia, senior vice-president Hotel Development, India/Indian Subcontinent, Marriott International said, “It is another important step in our expansion plans which will see Marriott International surpass one million rooms worldwide by the end of 2015 and more than double its size in Asia within the next four years,” Ahluwalia said.
The Marriott Kathmandu will feature approximately 200 luxury rooms including suites for long stay guests, an all-day dining restaurant with outdoor seating, a specialty Pan Asian restaurant, a bar, exquisite banqueting facilities, modern meeting spaces and a state-of-the-art health club.
