Billion-rupee mall being built in Pokhara
Pokhara Trade Mall, costing Rs 1 billion and housing 492 shops, is coming up at Chipledhunga, Pokhara.

feature a multiplex, food court and gaming zones.
A group of 60 traders have pooled their resources to build the mall. The merchants launched the project after being frustrated by the hassles of operating out of rented shops and the constant change of address.
“After the completion of the mall, there will be no problem of having to shift the shops as shopkeepers are often forced to do by their landlords,” said Shiva Prasad Adhikari, a trader engaged in repairing electronic goods. “I will never be able to construct such a building alone,
but the group investment has made all this possible.” He chipped in Rs 7.5 million, and he will get four shops to carry on his business as per the agreement.
Bindu Kumar Thapa, president of Pokhara Trade Mall and Housing, said that ownership will be handed over to all the investors after completion. “Those wishing to rent space can do so by signing an agreement with the company for a 10-year lease,” added Thapa. “Traders are expected to make adequate profits within 10 years after signing an agreement with the company.”
He said that the mall would benefit customers too. “They can buy all kinds of products under a single roof, and they can enjoy entertainment such as movies and games among others at the same time.” Thapa added that the mall was also the best example of how group investment could make things possible. He said, “Not only the investors but also other traders will get a place to
do business.”
The trade mall is being constructed on an area of 32,856 sq ft. “The mall is in the final stages of completion, and booking for space will open next week. It will come into operation by mid-June,” Thapa said.
CE Construction started construction work in mid-March last year. The mall has all the basic services like escalators, lifts, fire extinguishers, underground parking, 24-hour electricity, water and sufficient toilets. The mall will have a parking area of 31,000 sq ft.
Committee member Santosh Ghimire said that the mall would also be beneficial for small traders as there is an instalment payment facility. He added that customers would also get products and services at prices lower than at other outlets in the city.”
