‘Samaya Sutra’, a book-length essay which discusses time from both Vedic and scientific perspectives, was launched at a function in Bouddha, Kathmandu on Saturday.
The book, written by journalist Shreesha Bhandari, was jointly unveiled by physicist Prof Udayaraj Khanal, scholar of eastern philosophy Prof Amodavardhan Kaundinyayan, senior artist and former chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts Ragini Upadhyay, senior physician and lyricist Dr Bhola Rijal and journalist Tikaram Yatri, along with other attendees at the function.

The book delves into the physical, experiential, biological and psychological dimensions of time. Topics include the value of time, the reason time is scarce for everybody, and how management of time equates the management of life.
The event also featured a dialogue on time between the author and the scholars. “Understanding time is extremely difficult,” said physicist Khanal, who specialises in cosmology. “This book is mainly for readers who want to know time and understand it deeply.” He added that the book explains complex scientific ideas about time in clear and precise Nepali.
Prof Kaundinyayan said that the book is enriched by its citation of Vedic and other important texts with original references. “The book can be an important medium to make young and new generations more aware of time,” he said. “It is useful for students as well as general readers interested in time.”
Artist Upadhyay shared that time can be made meaningful through good actions.
“If the book helps readers see their moments not just as passing units but as meaningful possibilities, I will consider my goal fulfilled,” author Bhandari said.
Published by Eternal Publication Pvt Ltd, ‘Samaya Sutra’ has 264 pages and is priced at Rs500.
