‘Long Live Pop Art’ at Taragaon Next

Taragaon Next presents a solo exhibit of Reyan Tamang, a contemporary Nepali artist based in Kathmandu. ‘Long Live Pop Art’, featuring 12 paintings and 1 sculpture, will be on view from May 29 to May 31.
For Tamang, the exhibit is a meditation on pop art, exploring the often overlooked contemporary aspects of Nepali lifestyle. Primarily working with acrylic paint on wood, he explores perspectives, human experiences and interests.

With the aim of creating his own distinct style within Nepal’s subjectivity, his paintings are mostly based on wood. Acrylic on wood, to be precise.
“In my exhibition, I have put up works that depict my own visual identity, capturing pop culture and niche communities of urban Kathmandu,” says Tamang.
Having spent a year (2025) making these artworks, he has also explored the September Gen Z uprising through the artistic style that he was developing.

Unconventionally, the shapes of his canvases (woods) are oval. “I create my works in oval shape to create a distinction and also in a portal theme, as they are usually round/oval,” adds Tamang.
In the three-day-long exhibition, Tamang expects to have intimate gatherings with the viewers, discussing his formative style and the art scene in general.
