The second edition of the Queer Film Festival starts today at the Airavat Picture House (Educational Hall), Thapathali. The ten-day festival will screen more than 170 films, including 23 feature-length titles and over 150 short films, with runtimes ranging from 30 to 35 minutes, centred on the narratives, themes, and creative expressions of queer communities.
According to the organisers, the festival features a wide range of films from all continents. Four Nepali films have been included in this year’s programme, highlighting local storytelling alongside international works and placing Nepali queer narratives within a global cinematic context.
Kshitiz Adhiraj, co-director of the Festival, says, “The objective of the festival is to promote Nepali films and filmmakers. It is also about providing a platform for filmmakers to showcase their work, connect with other filmmakers, and explore further opportunities.”
Adhiraj added that the films featured in the festival are rooted in lived queer experiences, reflecting personal stories and broader social realities.
Through these narratives, the festival seeks to encourage conversation around issues of sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics.
