Mandala Theatre to hire local artists for mobile street theatre health project
Participants will collaborate to develop street performances on local issues.
Post Report
Mandala Theatre Nepal has announced that it will recruit nine local artists for a month-long street theatre initiative aimed at promoting health awareness and social inclusion among marginalised communities.
The project aligns with the ‘Support to the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (S2GESI)’ programme implemented by GIZ, the German development cooperation agency and the Nepal Government. It will target women, persons with disabilities, Dalits, people living with HIV/AIDS and ethnic and religious minorities.
One of Mandala Theatre’s co-founders, Somnath Khanal, says, “Through this project, we aim to increase awareness, encourage community action, and celebrate the successes of marginalised groups in accessing quality health services.”
Performances will be conducted across the Aalital Rural Municipality in Dadeldhura, Triveni Municipality in Bajura, and Panchadeval Binayak Municipality in Achham. Selected artists will undergo a 15-day intensive training in Dhangadhi before touring the three municipalities with Mandala’s mobile theatre truck, ‘Junkiri’.
Participants will collaborate to develop theatre performances on local issues, stage nine shows, and engage in post-performance discussions with audiences.
Applicants must be permanent residents of one of the project locations. Prior theatre experience is preferred but not compulsory. Candidates are expected to be willing to travel, work in remote areas and demonstrate commitment to community-based theatre.
The training begins on December 11, 2025, and the contract will run until March 15, 2026. Interested individuals must submit their biodata, a photo and proof of local residency to [email protected]. Applications may be written in English or Nepali.
The deadline for submission is October 30, 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed locally in the first week of November.
Mandala Theatre Nepal has stated that women, people with disabilities and members of ethnic or gender minority groups will be given preference.
