A buffalo that dreams of abroad
‘Vayupankhi Buffalo’, currently showing at Kausi Theatre, takes an absurdist flight.
Post Report
The play ‘Vayupankhi Buffalo’ made its debut yesterday at Kausi Theatre in Teku. The story revolves around a buffalo that decides to fly abroad but faces bureaucratic obstacles—it needs to pass an English test and obtain a Nepali passport. The performance takes a meta-theatrical approach, with actors openly questioning the absurdity of the plot as the play progresses.
The cast includes Nishan Khatri, Rishikesh Basyal, Shila Niroula, and Kabir Kafka. The play is voiced by Samaya, with original musical score by Rajat. Purnima Acharya is in charge of makeup. The production, supported by Tea-tales, presents an unconventional narrative that blends humour with subtle social commentary.
Directed by Kshitiz Parajuli and produced by Krishna Bahadur Khadka, ‘Vayupankhi Buffalo’ does not follow traditional storytelling. Instead, it embraces illogical situations while the cast themselves react to the ridiculousness of the plot.
The play will run daily at 5:20 pm (except Tuesdays) until May 12, with an additional 1:00 pm show on Saturdays. All performances will be held at Kausi Theatre, Teku. Those interested in experimental theatre may find this production worth watching.
