The book ‘Kaalsanga Kusti’, capturing Captain Ash Bahadur Gurung’s military career and battle against stage-four prostate cancer in his 80s, was launched in Bharatpur on Saturday.
Authored by the former UN Communication Specialist and media educator Chun Bahadur Gurung, the book narrates Ash’s experiences as a soldier who served in the British Army for nearly three decades, fought in the jungle of the Indonesia-Malaysia border, trained in the US, and later worked in the UK and Brunei.
The biography has eight chapters, each including relevant references and photographs capturing Ash’s early life, livelihood, struggles, and triumphs.
At the event, Bahadur Singh Lama, the chief minister of Bagmati Province, said, “This book includes Ash’s experiences from adulthood to old age. It provides profound wisdom to readers. I am confident that it will also be a source of inspiration for many.”
Beyond being a biography, the book provides insights into the Gurung community, Nepali society, the struggles of Lahure culture, and the racial discrimination faced by the Gurkhas. Ash said, “It took almost two years to publish this book. I am deeply grateful towards biographer Chun for writing about my life.”
