1974 AD performed in Sydney’s ICC theatre on Saturday. According to the organisers, the band became the first Nepali musical group to perform there.
The concert kicked off with the instrumental piece ‘Jangi Nishan’. They followed up with songs like ‘Timilai Pirati Le Bandhaula’ and ‘Chhudaina Timro Mayale.’ For their 30th anniversary, the band performed songs from their nine albums. The nearly three-hour-long performance included over 25 songs. "We wanted to perform well for our first performance at the ICC," said Sanjay Shrestha, a band member.
Before performing ‘Mayalule Mayalule’, member Nirakar Yakthumba reflected on the band's 30-year journey, recalling the context of including that song on their first album.
Another highlight was vocalist and guitarist Firoz Syangden's tribute to classic Nepali singers. Before performing Arun Thapa's ‘Jati Maya Laye Pani,’ he honoured Nepali music legends like Gopal Yonzan and Narayan Gopal, sharing snippets of their popular songs.
Yakthumba expressed the joy of performing, “Our goal is to unite Nepalis worldwide through music. This brings us happiness.”
Roteping Entertainment organised the Australia tour. The band has already performed in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, and Canberra. Rote Ping's Roshan Bhattarai expressed happiness at hosting their first event at the ICC.
With this concert, the band's anniversary tour comes to a close. Before landing in Australia, the band had been to the US, Japan, Germany, and the UK for performances.
