On the occasion of its 60th anniversary, Nepal Art Council, in coordination with the Federation of Handicrafts Associations of Nepal, has organised an art exhibition titled ‘Deities of Nepal’.
Dedicated to the late Satya Mohan Joshi who was also the president of Nepal Art Council, the exhibition features 200 artworks from 180 different artists, according to the organisers. In an open call, around 600 artworks had been received in total.
“In the past, religion was ingrained in us and it was simultaneously taken with art but the younger generation seems to be distant with these things. Although religion might not be their interest today, it is important for them to connect with our culture and art,” said Swosti Rajbhandari, curator of this exhibition.
Artworks of some senior artists like Tej Bahadur Chitrakar, Lain Singh Bangdel, Sashi Bikram Shah, Vatsa Gopal Vaidya, Kiran Manandhar and Ragini Upadhyaya are also showcased in the exhibition.
