Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Local Development Prakash Man Singh will inaugurate the revamped park on June 30, KMC officials said.
The renovation of the park, situated in the heart of Kathmandu, was initiated eight months ago. Though the metropolis was preparing to re-open it on the New Year Day 2072 BS, the programme was rescheduled for the end of April citing technical reasons. However, the event was again postponed due to the April 25 earthquake.
KMC’s Environment Division chief Rabin Man Shrestha said around 100 quake survivors were taking shelter at the park after the quake but they have already left the area. “Kathmandu denizens can now come to the park to take respite from the hustle and bustle of the crowded city,” he said.
Officials said entry fee for the renovated park has been fixed at Rs 25. Students, however, will be charged only Rs 15. KMC expects that over 500 people will visit the park on a daily basis. The park that spreads over four ropanis of land is one of the best public recreational areas in the Kathmandu valley.
As part of the renovation, greenery, colourful flowers, umbrella-shaped resting places and painted benches have been set up in the park. Likewise, footpaths and ponds are other fresh additions to the park.
The metropolis invested Rs 8 million for the renovation and has employed 10 workers for maintenance. Officials said security personnel from the metropolis and police will be deployed for regular surveillance.
