Police are investigating after an unidentified person was found dead inside a burned private vehicle in Kirtipur on the outskirts of Kathmandu on Tuesday.

The body was discovered inside a private car bearing registration number Ba 5 Cha 3038, which was spotted engulfed in fire while parked at a public location in Tyanglaphant, ward 1 of Kirtipur Municipality.

According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, people first noticed the vehicle engulfed in flames. It was only after the fire had subsided that authorities discovered a person had been inside the car.

Superintendent of Police Pawan Bhattarai said the identity of the deceased has not yet been established and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“We have cordoned off the scene and are carrying out further investigation,” Bhattarai said.

Police have not disclosed whether they suspect foul play, saying it is too early to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigators are examining the vehicle and the scene to establish the cause of the fire and identify the victim.
