Two dead in Bajura jeep crash
15 others injured as overcrowded vehicle veers off road, police say.Post Report
Two elderly women were killed on the spot when a jeep met with an accident in Himali Rural Municipality of Bajura district on Thursday morning.
According to Police Inspector Dev Bahadur Chaudhary of the District Police Office, Bajura, the deceased have been identified as 76-year-old Bija Rokaya and 75-year-old Bacha Rokaya of ward 5.
The jeep was en route to the ward office from Kyuudi village when it crashed at Tunigada.
Preliminary police investigation suggests the vehicle may have gone out of control on the rough rural road due to overcrowding. The passengers were reportedly travelling to renew their social security allowance.
Fifteen others were injured in the incident. Himali Rural Municipality dispatched health workers along with an ambulance for rescue operations, said Chief Administrative Officer Kul Bahadur Thapa.
