A 20-year-old man who went missing while visiting the Badimalika religious site in Bajura has been found dead.
Manish Bohara, a resident of Daiji in Bedkot Municipality, Kanchanpur, had gone missing while visiting the pilgrimage site. Chief District Officer of Bajura Muktiram Rijal confirmed to Kantipur that Bohara was found dead near Triveni Patan in Badimalika.
A security team was deployed by helicopter from the district headquarters on Sunday morning to search for him. Rijal said continuous bad weather, snowfall and freezing temperatures may have caused his death.
A search team from the Ishwaribaks Battalion, based in Martadi, found Bohara's body near Triveni Patan, Rijal said. Authorities are making arrangements to airlift the body and the security personnel involved in the search, he added.
Meanwhile, another trekker, 21-year-old Sagar Karki of Krishnapur Municipality-2 in Kanchanpur, was rescued by helicopter on Saturday afternoon after being stranded at Triveni Patan following heavy snowfall. He was flown to Martadi.
Karki had been staying at a shelter in Triveni Patan since Friday after snowfall blocked his return route from the Badimalika temple, located at an altitude of 4,200 metres.
A group of five people had set out for Badimalika from the district headquarters, Martadi, on October 26. The group included Bohara and Karki from Sudurpaschim and three others from eastern Nepal. The three trekkers from eastern Nepal had already returned.
