Very heavy rainfall in Tarai, Rautahat records highest 289 millimetres
Tarai districts see record rainfall as rivers cross warning levels, authorities urge caution.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is lashing several parts of the country, with the Tarai districts facing the most intense downpour, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said.
Rautahat recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, with 289 millimetres in Mahespur and 259 millimetres in Gaur. Birgunj received 247 millimetres, Parsa 231 millimetres, and Bara 222 millimetres.
According to Information Officer Dinakar Kayastha, Makawanpur recorded 134 millimetres and Kavrepalanchowk 122 millimetres. Several districts, including those in the Kathmandu Valley, reported more than 50 millimetres.
Ten rain gauge stations in Bara, Parsa, and Rautahat registered rainfall above danger levels. The Flood Forecasting Division said water levels in the Roshi river in Kavre, the Manohara and Bagmati rivers in Kathmandu, and the Lalbakaiya river in Makawanpur have crossed warning levels and are still rising.
The department has urged people to take precautions, as most rivers and streams in Bagmati and Madhesh provinces are nearing or have crossed warning levels.
