Two youths were shot during clashes between two groups in Siraha district on Thursday, as tensions erupted in Golbazar over an earlier incident in Sunsari.

The unrest began early Thursday morning after protests and confrontations linked to the Sunsari incident spread to Golbazar, according to police.

The injured have been identified as 20-year-old Ganesh Yadav of Tulsipur in Siraha and 19-year-old Subash Thakur of Dharapani in Dhanusha, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Bahadur Pal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Siraha.

Assistant Chief District Officer Chet Raj Baral said authorities had received information that Ganesh had died from his injuries. However, he said the death had not yet been officially confirmed.

Thakur was given initial treatment at Golbazar and later referred to Dharan for further medical care. His condition is also reported to be critical.

Police said they have not yet established who fired the shots, as tensions remain high in the area. “The situation is still tense, and it is not clear who fired the bullets,” DSP Pal said.
