Rastriya Swatantra Party keeps option open for electoral alliance
Party says the coalition should not compromise its unique identity.Post Report
The Rastriya Swatantra Party has kept open the possibility of forming an electoral alliance for the parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5.
DP Aryal, the party’s acting chairman, presented a political dossier at the ongoing extended central committee meeting in Sauraha, Chitwan, on Friday, stating that such alliances could be formed if necessary. The report, however, does not specify which parties or political forces the RSP could cooperate with.
Party leaders said the option has been left open mainly for coordination with newly emerging political forces. Despite that traditional parties have long been criticised for their alliances, the RSP has also decided to follow the old parties on coalition formation.
The report stresses that any such alliance must not come at the cost of the party’s unique identity. “The party remains open to cooperating and forming alliances with independent individuals, groups, and political parties that share similar fundamental values during and after the election,” the report says. “However, the party’s identity will not be compromised while forming any alliance.”
Aryal’s 48-page political document also discusses the RSP’s view on the Gen Z movement, the party’s view on the current government, and its plans. It states that the events of September 8 and 9 need to be analysed independently and investigated fairly, expressing concern that some of the incidents on September 9 appeared premeditated.
The report notes that the misuse of state power on September 8 triggered the following day’s violence and calls for an impartial probe to hold those responsible accountable.
The party is conducting deliberations on the report dividing party representatives into seven groups. Participants include office bearers, central committee members, central commission officials, provincial committee leaders, district and electoral constituency committee chairs, and party chiefs from municipalities. A total of 512 members are expected to attend.
During the meeting, general secretary Kabindra Burlakoti presented the organisational report. Vice-chair Swarnim Wagle will seek suggestions for the election manifesto. The meeting will discuss candidacy calls for the proportional representation system and selection procedures.
