Court grants bail to Deepak Bhatta and Sulav Agrawal in securities and insurance offence cases
Both will remain in custody in a separate money laundering case.Post Report
The Kathmandu District Court has ordered authorities to release businessmen Deepak Bhatta and Sulav Agrawal in cases related to securities and insurance offences.
After a week-long continuous hearing, a bench of Judge Shiva Prasad Acharya on Thursday issued a detention order, directing Agrawal to deposit Rs20 million and Bhatta Rs15 million as bail in the insurance-related offence case.
In a separate case involving securities offences, the court ordered Agrawal to post Rs15 million and Bhatta Rs10 million in bail.
The court issued the bail orders after completing the preliminary hearing process, which determines whether defendants should be detained pending trial or released under certain conditions.
In another case involving the sale of founder shares of Himalayan Reinsurance, the court has sought an additional bail amount of Rs23 million from Agrawal.
Both men remain in custody after the Special Court remanded them in a separate money laundering case. As they are already being held in that case, they will not be released even if they pay the bail amounts set by the district court in the insurance and securities offence cases.
