Floodwaters in the Roshi river have washed away temporary road diversions at two locations along the BP Highway in Kavre, disrupting traffic on the highway.

The diversions at Chaukidanda in Namobuddha Municipality-6 and Ghumaune in Roshi Rural Municipality-7 were swept away by the swollen river, according to Santosh Shrestha, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Kavre.

The diversions had been built after previous floods damaged the highway, allowing vehicles to continue using the affected sections. But heavy rain since Thursday night caused the river to swell and wash away the temporary structures.

Traffic on the highway has been disrupted since Friday morning, with floods and landslides leaving the road in a hazardous condition, Shrestha said.

Last year’s floods caused extensive damage to the Kavre section of the BP Highway, forcing authorities to rely on temporary structures and diversions at several locations to keep traffic moving. The latest flooding has damaged some of those diversions, causing fresh disruption along the highway.
