Traffic along the Prithvi Highway has been completely halted after a section of the road subsided at Galaundi, near Gajuri in Dhading district, on Friday evening.
Nearly 100 metres of the road developed cracks, while a 20-metre section sank, forcing authorities to stop all vehicle movement along the stretch.
Shishir Thapa, chief of the district traffic police, said the cracks had extended to the edge of the road, increasing the risk of further subsidence and landslides. Police halted traffic to prevent possible accidents, he said.
“The actual condition of the road and the possibility of reopening it can be determined only after a team of technical experts inspects and assesses the site,” Thapa said.
