Kantipur Media Group has invited applications for the editor-in-chief of Kantipur Daily following the resignation of Umesh Chauhan, who had held the position for three years.
Issuing a statement, the media group formally informed its readers and the wider media fraternity that Chauhan tendered his resignation on Friday.
Chauhan had been serving in an editorial role at Kantipur since July 10, 2021, and was appointed editor-in-chief on May 21, 2023.
With more than two decades of experience in journalism, Chauhan led Kantipur during several challenging periods, including the Covid-19 pandemic, the Gen Z movement and the recent elections. KMG expressed gratitude for his leadership and wished him success in future endeavours.
The media group said Chauhan will continue to oversee editorial leadership until a new editor-in-chief is appointed. The application process for the new position has already begun.
KMG stated that its media outlets have, for three decades, worked to promote political stability, good governance, transparency, investment and job creation, while holding relevant authorities accountable.
The group said Kantipur Daily remains committed to independent, fearless and impartial journalism in the public interest, reaching millions of readers through both print and digital platforms.
As Nepal’s political, economic and technological landscape rapidly evolves, the readership is increasingly shifting from print to digital platforms. In the changed context, KMG said it is looking for a visionary editor-in-chief to lead the newspaper into a new phase. The group has issued a public notice inviting applications to ensure a transparent and competitive selection process.
