Lumbini Development Trust has decided to organise the third International Buddhist Conference in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, on April 29 and 30.
The board meeting of the Trust held in Kathmandu on Thursday rearranged the event for April. Earlier, it was scheduled for November last year, and was postponed due to the country’s political situation.
The meeting, chaired by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha, formed a main organising committee to oversee preparations for the event. A 10-member committee has been constituted under the coordination of Trust Vice-Chairperson Lharkyal Lama.
Organisers stated that the two-day conference will bring together Buddhist scholars, monks, nuns, gurus and religious leaders from more than 40 countries. The government has allocated Rs 30 million for the conference.
Lumbini previously hosted international Buddhist summits in 1998 and 2004.
