The bodies of four climbers killed in an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak on July 30, including renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, have been brought down to the base camp, officials said.

Nepal lawmaker and mountaineer Mingma Gyabu Sherpa (Mingma David), who is in Pakistan coordinating the recovery operation, announced on Facebook that the bodies of Purja, also known as “Nims Dai”, along with Chinese climber Wang Zhong, and Nepali climbers Nima Sherpa and Kili Pemba Sherpa, had been recovered from the mountain and transported to the base camp.

Mingma thanked the Pakistan Army, the Pakistani government, the Gilgit-Baltistan government, local authorities, the British High Commission, the Nepali Embassy, the Alpine Club of Pakistan, and all those involved in supporting and coordinating the recovery mission.

“Bringing Nims home was about more than recovering a climber. He was a husband, father, son, brother and friend, and the driving force behind Elite Exped, the Nims Dai Foundation, Nims Dai Store and Skydive," Mingma wrote. "No words can lessen this loss. But we are grateful that Nims, Zhong, Nima and Kilu can now return home to their loved ones."

According to details released by the Alpine Club of Pakistan, recovery teams retrieved the bodies of two climbers, including one Nepali, and the remains of another climber during the first phase of the operation on July 31.

The body of Nepali climber Gyalu Sherpa was recovered on August 1. On Sunday, rescuers identified the bodies of four more climbers, including Purja, Wang, Nima and Kili Pemba.

The Alpine Club said the remains of Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi and American climber Mallory Geis have not yet been fully recovered, with only part of Geis' body located so far.
