The Election Commission has identified 302 misleading, deceptive and harmful contents as violations of the Election Code of Conduct 2026 and forwarded them to the concerned authorities for action.
In a statement issued on Friday, the commission said the contents were detected by the Information Integrity Promotion Unit under the Election Information Dissemination and Coordination Centre and referred for action in accordance with prevailing laws.
The commission said the Election Code of Conduct 2026 has been in force since midnight on January 18 to ensure the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5 is conducted in a clean, fair, transparent and credible manner.
Based on complaints and information received by the central code monitoring committee, the commission said it has sought explanations in 21 cases involving political parties, candidates and institutions. Of them, five replies have been received so far, while follow-ups are underway in the remaining cases.
To ensure financial transparency, the commission has directed political parties and candidates to open separate bank accounts for election expenses. Nepal Rastra Bank has already issued a circular to banks and financial institutions to implement the provision.
The commission said code of conduct monitoring officers have been appointed in all 77 districts, with separate responsibilities assigned for financial and non-financial matters.
Urging all stakeholders to fully comply with the code throughout the election period, the commission said complaints related to violations can be lodged in writing, verbally or through electronic means at election offices at all levels.
